      Obstetrics Ultrasound

Within the scope of care during gestation ultrasound is the chance to enthuse the becoming mother by means of fascinating photorealistic pictures of the fetus. But the exclusion of dysplasia gets more reliable through the new ultrasound technique too.
We offer 3D-Ultrasound - pictures/movies on CD to takeaway.

With lacking growth of the fetus or maternal diseases (Diabetes, blood high pressure, thyroid diseases) often doppler ultrasound examinations are announced. This we are able to offer too.

      Breast ultrasound

      Nuchal translucency (NT) scan

      What is nuchal translucency?
Nuchal translucency is a collection of fluid under the skin at the back of your baby's neck. It can be measured using ultrasound:
Between 11 weeks plus two days and 14 weeks plus one day of pregnancy
or when your baby measures between 45mm (1.8in) and 84mm (3.3in)
All babies have some fluid at the back of their neck. But many babies with Down's syndrome have an increased amount.
Why might I have a nuchal scan?
All pregnant women are offered a nuchal translucency (NT) scan, to assess whether or not their babies are likely to have Down's syndrome.
A screening test like NT can only estimate the risk of your baby having Down's. It can't tell you for sure either way. For example, if your result is one in 1,000, this means that for every 1,000 babies with your level of risk, one will have Down's syndrome. A risk of one in 150 or less is considered high.

      Doppler sonography/ultrasound

      What is Doppler sonography?
This technique uses reflected sound waves to measure blood flow in different parts of your baby's body. Doppler sonography helps us to assess your baby's health and can be done at the same time as an ultrasound.
Most modern ultrasound machines have a Doppler function. Once your sonographer locates a specific blood vessel that she wants to evaluate (one of the arteries in the umbilical cord, for instance), she presses a button to turn on the Doppler function. Blue or red highlights on the screen signal the characteristics of the blood flow, which the machine then analyzes. All of this takes just a few minutes during your ultrasound.

In what situations is Doppler sonography used?
Doppler sonography is most often used during the third trimester in women with high-risk pregnancies, including those who have low amniotic fluid levels, Rh-incompatibility, or twins sharing the same placenta, or whose babies aren't growing as they should.

Your practitioner can use Doppler sonography to literally see the flow of blood from the placenta to your baby, or in your baby's body itself. This can be helpful if, for example, your placenta isn't delivering enough blood to your baby or if your baby has developed anemia, which thins the blood. This information will help us to decide whether your baby should be delivered early or if other medical measures are needed to protect his health.
Doppler sonography can also be used during a transvaginal ultrasound for gynecological reasons. It may be used to check on an ovarian cyst, for example, or to help diagnose an ectopic pregnancy.

3D scans show still pictures of your baby in three dimensions. 4D scans show moving 3D images of your baby, with time being the fourth dimension.
It's natural to be really excited by the prospect of your first scan. But some mums find the standard 2D scans disappointing when all they see is a grey, blurry outline. This is because the scan sees right through your baby, so the photos show her internal organs.
With 3D and 4D scans, you see your baby's skin rather than her insides. You may see the shape of your baby's mouth and nose, or be able to spot her yawning or sticking her tongue out.
